Title: Need Help Identifying an Insect!
Post by: Backyard-Chief on December 17, 2015, 11:57:45 PM
ok, this little bastard showed up a few days ago…  not sure what it is.  no visible damage to plants.  they're congregating around the soil and inside edge of the pots, sometimes climbing the peres.  plants have been neemed.  can anyone tell me the name of this creature?

i don't know.  in these numbers?  there are many…  but they're disinterested in the plants.  they're getting sacred oil sprayed on every couple days.  i'll see if i can take a better picture in the next day or so.

When in doubt with something this small I tend to err in the direction of a good systemic insecticide.

The truth for me is that when in doubt, I often stamp those little critters out rather than let them gain a significant foot hold. A nice systemic can do that for you. However, one must still keep an eye out for re-infestations as systemics... as good as they are don't last forever. You have to check the bottle to see how often to repeat those applications or one could choose to use a non-systematic insecticide in-between times so long as it seems to work. But, I certainly am not afraid to bring out the big guns when needed.
