first attempt at cultivating Lophophora from seed

Hey everyone,
I'm finally getting around to posting my grow log for the three different varieties of Lophophora seeds that I planted earlier this month. There are approximately 100 seeds per pot. I planted them on the 8th of October and covered them with plastic wrap to hold in some moisture. I then gradually poked a few holes in the covers each day so that the plants could slowly adjust to the outside environment without drying out too much. These photos were taken 9 days after the seeds had been planted. The germination rates are varying quite a bit and I'm not really sure why this is happening.

So immediately after i took those photos, I knocked over the pot with the Lophophora v. koehresii seedlings... I acted quickly to recover them and carefully handled the seedlings with tweezers, gently replanting them in another pot. They're doing alright, but I guess it's safe to say that I wont be seeing any additional seedlings of that variety popping up. Here's how they're looking today

Looking very good! Mishaps happen, I recently dumped a bunch of trichocereus seedlings that size.

Definitely looking excellent. I don't think that you can grow cacti from seed and not have a batch dumped sooner or later. If you have kids... then your bound to have even more batches of seed dumped as my little girl recently taught me. One trick though is to take the scattered soil and spread it out thinly over more flats without seeds. You may indeed get lucky and have a few more seed sprout up that way. You'll just be broadcasting those same seed over a much larger area to ensure some of those stragglers come up.

easy to control pests, and much lighter, enabling stacked tight farms under artificial light.

Ok I'm almost sold on this idea... I can really see the benefits in certain contexts.   But surely there are advantages to using soil in others?

of course there is chief.
soil is a useful thing indeed.
sometimes a project just requires soil.

those who have seen my work, realize i use about everything.
i use sand , dirt, various soils, rockwool , coir and pure hydro even.
its about grow engineering.
it all depends.

id like to think in terms of a full range of possibilities.
and use the best medium at hand , for the circumstance.

it started on sand, was briefly on rockwool, then all hydro, and then full re root on soil !
( under LED)

so it all depends, in my case, i outgrow the mediums quickly.
after a point, soil, is the most practical for golf ball size and up, for long term grow.

we do use rockwool, but we minimize it, as i dont want a bunch of rock fiber /dust around my lab.
more often than not, we graft straight from sand sprouts a few weeks old,
and rockwool is usually reserved for backlogged seed specimens.

rockwool is a great way to rack up thousands of specimens in a small space though.

Sorry, do you mean to tell me that thing is fully rooted in 1 year from seed?  On periskiopsis I'm sure at first. I had to check out my oldest one to try to figure out how much I am lagging behind.  to what do you attribute the high growth rate?  Can you recommend an led manufacturer or product?  I've been holding out on LEDs Hoping the price will drop or some new thing will be released.  i tried to find info on the light spectrum lophs prefer but couldn't find much.
