a long way to go

roach

Very nice! What soil mix are you using?

Ribet50

They look good, what's your setup like? Are you using a heat mat to keep them warm?

Chief BigTittyFlapFlaps

regular cactus mix.  no perlite.  1/2 philips daylight LED's and 1/2 CFL's on an 18/6 timer, plus some ambient room light.  i use a heating pad on 12/12 only for the first week of germination.  lockable clear tupperware containers with many small drainage holes in the bottoms and a few large air holes drilled in the lids.  a layer of wax paper inside.  sterilized in the microwave prior to seeding.  gradually i will poke holes in the wax paper.  then slowly i'll begin upping the light intensity as the plants allow.

I once had an insect problem with my little seedlings.... ever since then I've always used diatomaceous earth mixed into my seed starting mix to help protect them.
For those that graft...
Every areole is a cactus waiting to be born

i don't know, but i think they're growing WAY too slow.  what's a good rate for lophs grown in soil?

anne halonium

looks like a good grow speed to me..........

Chief BigTittyFlapFlaps

it's amazing they're able to survive their first year in nature.

Ribet50

you would think they might grow even slower in the wild since seedlings would grow in rock crevices and tight spaces where there's not much access sunlight.

Chief BigTittyFlapFlaps

yeah that's right.  they must blow around until they find a suitable position that allows for humidity/shade.
