Ok, it's put on another set of spines...

From now on, whenever I post a picture, it will be a picture taken that same day... That way we can actually track progress.. Not sure when that last picture was actually taken but I believe it was only 2 weeks ago... This thing is growing fast..

Very small....

I think I am going to go do a graft right now... I really need a good straight razor though... Pretty sure using the knife I've been using has lead to some infections...

So maybe I will walk to the store first and then graft tonight...

Personal Grow Logs / Re: Random cacti grow log
July 03, 2018, 12:16:35 PM
Hey,

Just thought I'd update this.. These pictures were from a few years ago when i was living in Virginia.. As I'm sure you can tell by reading my old posts I wasn't doing too well back then.... I ended up having to leave my house abruptly and left all my cacti to one of my neighbors ... I haven't heard from him (although I haven't put a lot of effort into contacting him) since then... So hopefully the cactus were given a good home...

Anyways, now it's been a few years and I am more or less starting over. I have a good handful of trichcereus hybrids germinating and seedlings germinated, a few "pure" species germinating and a handful of bigger seedlings and small cacti that were gifted to me. In fact the majority of my seeds and cacti have been either given to me as gifts or at a  very low price from members of this forum and other similar forums...  It is very much appreciated and hopefully I will have enough to share by next season...

I will take some pictures and upload them later today... Right now I am just as broke as I was years ago so my main focus is to try and get a job or some steady form of income so I won't have to worry about expenses so much that should really be benign,,,, Once I have a bit of money my idea is to get an LED light to augment the lighting in the winter time .... I know people say you can't grow trichocereus under an LED but maybe with some natural light from the window and an LED they will grow... Also I plan on having other cacti growing that will be able to grow ok under and LED... Think halonium style...

Ok everyone, sorry for the long winded post.... Let's get this forum rolling again!

I didn't start this from seed myself....

But I wanted to keep a log of how it's going.... It has developed 2 new sets of areoles since it entered my greenhouse about 3 or 4 weeks ago...

Hey,

Haven't posted on this forum in years....

Just wanted to say ; these things look amazing! Very very nice. I am keeping my ear to the ground to get some astrophora hybrid seeds as soon as possible... The things look beautiful !

Good to be on here again; maybe we can get things rolling on here... This site has alot of potential.

Hope everyone is doing good.

Grafting / Grafting crested
November 29, 2015, 03:29:05 PM
So imtrying to graft this piece of crested pachanoi to a regular bridgess stock..... im thinking ill use saran wrap and tape for weigh

my main wuestion is is it ok to leave some of the crested open over the sides of the bridge stock? the stock is about 2 -2 1/2 inches and the crest is prbly about 3-5 inches wide....... im thinking it should be fine to graft just putting the center of the crest over the stock

this was to test for potency, which i dont think its very potent, but also to see if the infection in the split in the crest was taken care of, it was, and also wanted to graft a piece of crested to see what grow rates are lie

any experince ot tips appreciated

hmm ok

so there aremany dif mycotocins and most of them are likely to cause liver damage which could be strong enoguh to cause failure if enough is taken or it could add sccumulative damgetoyour liver(my liver cant be good with all the dxm i used to take etc)

do you have any idea what mycotoxins aare likely to be formed incacti? my guess is they would be myried kinds since imthinking its whatever is in the air etc when it starts molding,,

will be a  shame but i might have to throw all this away,,, looks like i have mesc and other alks as i have no idea what else could crash out from the drytone pulls when adding citiric saturated tone; big clumps crashed right out on the first 2, and only pulls so far, i did. i washed this with mroe dry tone to get rid of more impurites though i would do anothe wash

then i was thinking of redisolving and basing with sodiun hydroxide thinking a high ph would destroy sometoxins but then again who know, then i would re salt with hcl

i will prbly do this anyways to see if this tek works and to practice mytechnique; would be cool to get nice metalic looking needles of hcl even if eating themis a dubious idea

also i did try asmall amount, little finger dab, of the extract and no ill effects, this was such a small amount thousgh

weird thingis it didnt taste bitter, maybe slitghtly bitter, but i cant ifnd any info on what mesc citrate would taste like

im more interested in seeing if this tek worked, maybe i will pricurse somne reagent tests

so i will prbly making agood tea and sparing some cactis lives to make uo for the failure; maybe big chunk ofcrest pach to test for potency and graft the rest of the chunk to my big well rooted normal bridge

a;; the love

imin the middle of extractig this along this with other cacti in the batch,,

should mycotoxins makeit through an extractions? would high ph kill them?

i know there are manymycotoxinsand secondarymetabolites but is there a relativvely sure way to kill most?

this willbe done shulgin stlye, testing amgthen10 then 20 then 50 then a 100 if done
would hate to lose all that mesc,,, if so sprac is extracting a big piece of crested pach

jappy turkeyday and post turkeyday capitalism day anne and all

procuredsome loph seedbut could use more of course

i was thinkging of tryinthe "tajeaway tek" if youve heard of that or just open air but this time wash my sand with l bleach and the h202 first and leave opena air and mist with distilled water ina cleanarea,,, not sure why my lophs died last time but burde are still doing fine

imalso wondering if gibberallic acid soak would help germrates, maybe will try 15 with soak and 15 without

the led i have seemslike you should have glasses on to go near;my gut tells me 8 of those would be atleaest enought for a sqft once theyre really growing, need ti get peres and leaern how to graft, have a smallloph button i might try to graft using the stab method with apsilocereus for scion one that cerus has good roots

will be trying the crested pach to bridge graft soon

hvae a bunch of papaver somniferum seeds to start learning to germand grow soon ;)

then i have my5hostilis seeds and hoepfully soon moretotrygerming again; also looking into acuminatas

tried a dry tek on some cacti in the middlefo that still;will post reults and get an updated growlog etc going soon oncei have some courrt/jail problems out of the way, trip to peru and get out of the states may be in order

thats about all im working on now, wish i had full lab and more money to play with

ok anne,

i cant't remember if I've made a thread or post on this but sould the sand be any different for germing lophs? I know how to germ reg trish using sand open air and misting with distilled water a few times a day, you taught me that.

on the flipside i have an excess (for me and the space i have) amount of trich seeds so i AM doing a side by side of open air vs closed with a plastic lid. couple lids have holes the others dont. If they germ quicker then as soon as theres some decent amount of gree, maybe 1-3 days after first sign of germ/green i will take off cover and go back to open air.

anyways main thing is, ppl say not to use beach sand or "play" sand but thats al i can source around here it looks like and i used to play sand onthe bridge seedlings and they germed and are growing well. the lophs i had in the same dish germed grew a bit and died. thinking maybe the sand wasnt porous enough for them to set down roots

Identification / Loph variaties
November 19, 2015, 01:08:28 AM
so im wondering abot different variaties of williamsii......

which ones tend to be most potent? considering mesccontent and other alks, mesc alone and other alks alone

which grow faster, which tend to pup off more, which grow more seed, best for grafting, condtions etc..

it looks like we dont have a thread for this so if not it would be cool to get a thread going to collect all the info we can on differences between strains.

all thel ove<3

This stuff is going to extraction; either going to do a regular a/b usinge vinegar then sodium hydroxide xylene then backsalt with hcl/water.

or maybe try a "dry" tech using calcium hydroxide and pulling with  anhydrous acetone and adding citric acid and freezing..  i havent tried this way yet. prbly going to stick with regular a/b although last time (and first time) it didnt seem to work well it may have been the cacti... not a known potency there..

i'd like to see more extraction data on here so maybe I wiill write something up next time; this time has been kind of haphazrd, randomcactis etc.

would like to start cloning down the line and testing different variables to see what making the cacti put out the mesc..  then we can find sweetspot for efficiency
