cacti in central oregon?
« on: September 14, 2014, 01:07:02 PM »
hi, does anyone know if there is any psychoactive cacti in central oregon?  i have seen little cacti and succulents in the desert in central oregon and consumed a few, and they WERE psycho active and sortof were a mind blowing experience.  did the native central oregon indians consume these little cacti for a medicinal or psycho active experience?  all i have seen in central oregon is little cacti and NEVER big cacti except on volcano mountain top during the summer.  the cacti in central oregon only grows in the summer months as it snows in the winter.  is there any peyote in oregon?  any help of identification or history of these tiny cacti in central oregon would be greatly appreciated.             Mono

I've never known of any psychoactive cacti that grow in that region. Opuntias are said to contain minute amounts of mescaline. There are many other compounds that can exist in cacti that can have psychoactive effects that are not really understood.

If I was you, I would get some Trichocereus bridgesii cuttings and grow them in pots. You will have to bring them inside for the winter though and induce dormancy in them by keeping in low temperatures (but above freezing) and water them very little if at all.
